Nkosi was born and raised in a township called Thokoza in the east of Johannesburg, South Africa

Nkosi was born and raised in a township called Thokoza in the east of Johannesburg, South Africa. When she was 12 years old, Ms. Oprah Winfrey invited her to attend the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. Mom O told her: “My job is to open doors for you. Yours is to decide and believe that you are worthy to walk through them.” Nkosi decided she was worthy. She won a spot at Skidmore College, moved to the United States, and just graduated with her degree in Sociology. As she sets out into the world to begin her adult life, she plans to throw open one door at a time for herself and for all the girls who come behind her. She wants them to decide and believe that they too are worthy to walk through these doors, because they are.
